How the Library Works
The Ramsay Health Care Library is an online library. It
has an Intranet and an Internet site.
The Intranet page is only available at the hospital.
From the main Intranet home page, click on Library Services.
The Internet page is available anywhere / anytime. Go to
the Ramsay home page (http://www.ramsayhealth.com.au/rhc
) and a link to Library Services is at the bottom, close
to the Ramsay Email link.
The Internet and Intranet sites contain the same information,
except that the passwords for the various resources are only
listed on the Intranet site. You will need to take these
passwords home with you as they are required to access the
resources from home.
Bibliographic Databases
The Ramsay Health Library offers access to the databases
Medline, CINAHL, Health Business FullText Elite, Psychology
and Behavioral Sciences, and ProQuest.
Medline is an index containing citations from over 4,800
current biomedical journals. It provides authoritative medical
information on medicine, nursing, and healthcare administration.
CINAHL is a primary index to the literature of nursing and
allied health, providing indexing for 3,024 journals and
full text for hundreds of these. Included are legal cases,
clinical innovations, critical paths, drug records, research
instruments and clinical trials. Some full text dates back
to 1937.
Health Business FullText Elite provides full text coverage
for 450 administration journals.
Psychology and Behavioral Sciences provides full text coverage
for 575 publications and covers topics such as emotional & behavioural
characteristics, psychiatry and psychology.
ProQuest is a database of articles from medical, nursing
and allied health journal titles. In many instances it
provides access to the full text of its articles.
You can do your own searches for the information you require,
or you can ask a librarian to help. The search form provided
may offer you some direction.
You will find that many full text articles are linked
directly to your search results in Medline and CINAHL.
You can print
these out, or save them to your computer.
Article Requests
For those articles not available in full text online, the
Library provides a Document Request service. You simply fill
in and submit online the
Document
Request form. The Library will, in most cases, be able
to supply your request(s). There is a Document Request form
attached to every article in Medline and CINAHL. When filling
out this form it is easiest if you cut and paste from your
search results.
Prior to requesting an article for
the first time, you need to Register
with the Library. The Library will email you a PIN (Personal
Identification Number) which is needed on the Document Request
form when you are requesting an article.
Journal Holdings
The full text journals available are listed in
A-to-Z. Each journal title is linked to its full
text in
the various databases.
Online Books
In addition, the Library has a selection of online
Books focussing primarily on clinical practice.
Each book is
available to one user at a time, so remember
to close the book when
you are finished reading, and logoff. You can
print out the pages if that suits you better
than reading
online.
Book Purchasing
The Library may be able to assist you with
the bulk purchasing of books for your hospital.
We hope that the Library service assists you with your research
and professional development.
